The Grand Imam of Al-Azhar and the Minister of Education stress the necessity of instilling religious and moral values

His Eminence, the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, Prof. Dr. Ahmed El-Tayeb, received at Al-Azhar Sheikhdom, Mr. Mohamed Abdel Latif, Minister of Education and Technical Education, to discuss ways to enhance mutual cooperation.
During the meeting, the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar stressed the necessity of instilling religious and moral values, instilling pride in identity, and reviving the authentic customs upon which we were raised, such as the love of reading and learning, and connecting the young and the youth to our heritage, our cultural and civilizational roots, and our ancient history. This can be achieved through educational curricula in a simplified manner that facilitates the acquisition of information and the sustainability of knowledge. This is in light of this flood of cultural invasion that attempts to uproot the minds of our sons and daughters, separate them from the reality of their homeland and nation, and exclude the system of values and morals from the lives of young people through modern technological means that invade their minds without supervision.
For his part, Minister Mohamed Abdel Latif affirmed the Ministry's commitment to developing students' moral values and combining them with the pursuit of knowledge and learning. He emphasized the Ministry's approach to restoring schools to their role as educational institutions that work to raise and educate students in a sound manner, and to protect them against extremist ideas and the tendency to alienate their identity, which is actively targeting them.
The Grand Imam of Al-Azhar and the Minister of Education also discussed the inclusion of the historic "Human Fraternity Document," which he signed with His Holiness Pope Francis in 2019, in pre-university education curricula. His Eminence emphasized the importance of the provisions of this document in spreading the values of coexistence and brotherhood and promoting a culture of respect for others. The Minister of Education welcomed the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar's proposal, stressing the need to study how to incorporate the texts of this historic document and utilize it to the fullest extent possible.
