The Minister of Education meets with the Global Director of Education and Adolescent Development at UNICEF
Dr. Reda Hegazy, Minister of Education and Technical Education, met with Mr. Robert Jenkins, Global Director of Education and Adolescent Development at UNICEF, on the sidelines of the World Education Forum 2024 in London, to discuss aspects of cooperation in supporting educational programs.
During the meeting, Dr. Reda Hegazy, Minister of Education and Technical Education, praised the efforts of UNICEF as a huge partner of the Ministry of Education in developing the Egyptian education system, noting that the Ministry spares no effort to achieve comprehensive development for young people, especially those in the early childhood stage.
The Minister thanked UNICEF for the fruitful and effective cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Technical Education in several areas, including developing the use of the organization’s expertise in preparing the general framework for the developed preparatory stage curricula.
Dr. Reda Hegazy, Minister of Education and Technical Education, explained that the Ministry has completed preparing the strategic plan 2024/2029, through an analysis of the education sector and calculating the financing gap, and in light of studying the challenges, the strategic plan was built that is compatible with the three government programs, which are building the Egyptian human being. , employment, and security protection, in line with the goals of sustainable development, and the direction of the Egyptian state, regarding the importance of students having skills and competencies that qualify them for the changing labor market.
The Minister of Education and Technical Education explained that the Ministry has three strategic goals, which are availability, quality, sustainability and lifelong learning.
The Minister of Education also indicated that Egypt’s accession to the Global Partnership for Education (GPE) came as a step in support of the ministry’s efforts to achieve the goals of developing the educational system and implementing the ministry’s strategic plan 2024.
The Minister indicated that the Ministry is interested in the specifications of the graduate who keeps pace with global technological development and the digital revolution, so that his specifications are suitable for the labor market and future jobs, stressing the participation of teachers and students in the performance of digital educational materials, indicating that the teacher is no longer a lecturer of education, but a guide to learning, as well as focusing on the outcomes. Major learning, problem solving and overall preparation of students.
The Minister also pointed out that Egypt has educational channels and platforms, expressing his interest in cooperating with UNICEF in building the capabilities of specialists in preparing digital educational materials, and using artificial intelligence programs in producing these materials, in addition to training teachers specialized in teaching high school curricula, in addition to the Ministry’s interest in creating portfolios. Training and booklets containing a code of honor in the field of cooperation with technology.
For his part, Mr. Robert Jenkins, Global Director of Education and Adolescent Development at UNICEF, welcomed learning about the Ministry’s plan for digital transformation in education, noting that Egypt is considered a pioneer in this field in the world, and that Egypt is also a role model in the field of educational development.
The meeting witnessed a discussion of enhancing ways to support the quality of Egyptian education by focusing on improving basic skills in reading, writing, and arithmetic in the first grades, as well as the national assessment of the fourth and first grades of middle school.
