The Minister of Education participates in the activities of the Fifth Cairo Water Week under the slogan "Water at the heart of climate action"
Today, Dr. Reda Hegazy, Minister of Education and Technical Education, participated, in the presence of Dr. Hani Swailem, Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, in the activities of the Fifth Cairo Water Week, which is organized by the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation from 16 to 20 October under the slogan "Water at the heart of climate action".
Students from schools who excel in science and technology STEM participated in a number of projects that contribute to facing the problems of water management and rationalization.
Minister of Education, Dr. Reda Hegazy, stressed that STEM schools aim to encourage innovation and work to discover and nurture the talented in all academic subjects and school activities, and refine their skills in all disciplines, and prepare a researcher capable of using scientific research standards in his research and scientific inventions, guiding students Schools who excel in science and technology STEM are keen to extend their studies and succeed in their scientific and practical life.
Dr. Reda Hegazy thanked the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation for the permanent and fruitful cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Technical Education; To raise awareness of the importance of water, stressing that water conservation and rationalization of its use is one of the most important major concepts that the Ministry is keen to educate students about the importance of preserving it, rationalizing its use, and maintaining the cleanliness of its sources, by including these meanings in the school curricula and in various educational activities for all educational levels. , in order to serve the sustainable development in the field of water use.
For his part, Dr. Hani Swailem, Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, stressed that the country faces a number of challenges, including water challenges, climate change and its impact on the water sector, pointing to the importance of STEM schools whose students work to provide innovative and creative solutions; Water conservation, rational use and conservation, desalination projects, renewable energy and water technology; to meet these challenges.
The Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation praised the projects presented by the students, stressing the importance of building the capabilities of our students and providing them with all aspects of support in a way that contributes to more scientific research and innovation.
The two ministers attended a discussion session for the research projects submitted by students from the STEM Schools of Excellence through the "Young Innovators in Water" competition, where the students participated in many inventions and research projects, for which more than (250) students submitted (72) research projects. It was presented through specialized technical sessions in the areas of rationalization and purification of water, renewable energy and its uses in the field of water. The scientific committee formed to evaluate these research included specialists from national research centers and Egyptian universities and representatives of international organizations and universities.
The names of the winning students were announced in the competition, where the two students Esraa Akram and Eman Raslan from the Outstanding School of Science and Technology in Ismailia won first place for the research project (a water generator from the air and a smart irrigation system). The crossing in Qalyubia for the research project (pure stock), and the third place was won by the two students, Rofan Ashraf and Areej Mostafa, from the School of Excellence for Science and Technology in the Red Sea, for the research project (pure hydration), and the fourth place was won by the students Youssef Amr and Youssef Sameh at the Outstanding School of Science and Technology in Sharqia for the research project. (CSP system and automatic desalination). The student, Shorouk Mohamed Abdullah, won the fifth place at the School of Excellence for Science and Technology in Assiut for the research project (Water Heat Recovery Green Battery System).
The two ministers honored the students who won the competition with financial prizes to motivate and encourage them for their outstanding projects and creativity.
It is worth noting that the Fifth Cairo Water Week aims to integrate water issues into climate action, promote innovations to confront urgent water challenges by unconventional methods using modern technology, work to support and implement integrated water management policies, and reach sustainable solutions to manage water resources to confront population growth and climate change. This is within the framework of the State's great interest in the issue of water and placing it at the top of the climate agenda as one of the most important requirements for sustainable social and economic development.
