Mr. Mohamed Abdel Latif, Minister of Education and Technical Education, received Mr. Ulrich Shannon, Canadian Ambassador to Cairo, and his accompanying delegation; to discuss joint priority projects to develop pre-university education in Egypt.

At the beginning of the meeting, Minister Mohamed Abdel Latif welcomed the attendees, praising the depth of relations between the two countries, especially in the educational fields, in addition to the Canadian education system, which is one of the best educational systems, in addition to the importance of exchanging experiences between the two countries in the field of pre-university education, stressing his aspiration to enhance cooperation in priority projects.

The Minister stressed the state's and political leadership's support for the technical education sector and its development, which contributes to the development of the Egyptian economy and the creation of a generation capable of competing in the labor market, noting that the centers of excellence are an advanced model of technical education schools, and are a partnership with a group of companies and bodies representing the economic sector, where schools are selected, developed and provided with modern equipment to ensure that students acquire the skills necessary for the labor market, with the aim of advancing and promoting technical education.

The Minister also stressed that the Ministry seeks to enhance the rights of students with special needs in general and technical education, in line with Egypt's Vision 2030, as the Ministry works to provide all educational services and necessary privileges for these students, explaining that the Ministry places at the top of its priorities taking all necessary measures to educate and prepare them, in order to facilitate their lives and their participation and integration into society, noting that the Rehabilitation Center for People with Special Needs in the Tenth of Ramadan City is one of the largest rehabilitation centers for people with special needs, Arab and African.

For his part, Mr. Ulric Shannon, Canadian Ambassador to Cairo, expressed his happiness with the partnership with the Ministry of Education and Technical Education, stressing his country's keenness to advance bilateral cooperation with Egypt during the next stage, and to provide all means of support to advance the educational process.

The meeting included discussing the exchange of expertise in the development efforts and programs made by Egypt in the field of education, including cooperation to establish 3 centers of excellence in the agricultural fields in which the Egyptian agricultural sector excels, in cooperation with major Egyptian private sector companies in this field, so that the work areas and centers in this cooperation are concentrated in the governorates of Gharbia, Beheira and Menoufia, with the possibility of expanding to other areas according to the requirements of the Egyptian agricultural sector.

The meeting also discussed opportunities for cooperation and exchange of expertise with the Canadian side in the services provided to students with special needs through an integrated system of services in which all international standards are taken into account.

The meeting also emphasized, during the meeting, the ongoing cooperation and coordination between the two sides in a number of future projects, which enhances the achievement of common educational goals.

The meeting was attended from the Canadian Embassy by Counselor Mark Scallion, Commercial Counselor, Ms. Iman Omran, Senior Development Officer, and Mr. Joseph Tadros, Senior Commercial Representative.

The Ministry was represented by Dr. Ayman Bahaa El-Din El-Bassal, Deputy Minister, Ms. Sherine Hamdy, Minister’s Advisor for International Cooperation and Agreements, Dr. Amr Basila, Head of the Central Administration for Technical Education and Director of the Operation and Management Unit of Applied Technology Schools, Dr. Rasha El-Geoushy, Ministry Coordinator for Academic Affairs for International Schools, and Dr. Amira Awad, Ministry Coordinator for United Nations Organizations.
