The Minister of Education discusses with the CEO of the British Council the exchange of knowledge and experiences
Dr. Reda Hegazy, Minister of Education and Technical Education, met with Mr. Scott McDonald, CEO of the British Council; In the presence of Ambassador Sherif Kamel, Egyptian Ambassador to London; This is to discuss ways of cooperation between the Ministry and the Council in exchanging knowledge and experiences to enhance the quality of education and provide comprehensive educational opportunities.
Dr. Reda Hegazy appreciated the cooperation with the British Council, and expressed his appreciation to the Council for providing the necessary support for the educational process in Egypt through many programs, including connecting classrooms, English language training programs, integration, teacher training on inclusion, and training principals on leadership. cross-cutting skills, and other effective collaborations.
The Minister reviewed the education reform program that began in 2018, noting that development is a state plan, stressing that the Egyptian state places the education file at the top of its priorities and provides all means of support to develop the educational system in its various aspects.
In this context, Dr. Reda Hegazy referred to the curriculum development plan, which includes developing the preparatory stage curricula and implementing them starting from the next academic year, which includes the English language among several languages that will be taught in government schools as a second language, praising the role of the British Council in supporting the Ministry’s efforts to develop the system. Educational.
Dr. Reda Hegazy also pointed out the Egyptian state’s tendency to expand international public schools (IPS) and raise their level of quality, as these schools are a national project that provides a distinguished educational model with international quality, as it grants the student an (IG) certificate, explaining that these types of schools represent... An important step taken by the Egyptian state to provide a distinguished educational service, at reasonable prices.
The Minister also reviewed the model of the Egyptian Nile International Schools, which grants students an accredited certificate from Cambridge.
The Minister added that the Ministry is taking steady steps in developing the education system, stressing the Ministry's keenness to achieve more cooperation with the British Council in various aspects of the educational system, especially teacher training.
The Minister also pointed out that artificial intelligence and digital transformation have become a reality and have revolutionized education, and the role of the teacher and the infrastructure in schools, indicating the Ministry’s strong direction to employ technology in education in a way that affects learning outcomes, its path, and the form of development.
The Minister also stressed the need to take into account the negative and side effects of technology, including the decline in privacy, stressing that the Ministry seeks to also raise awareness of the negative effects of technology.
The Minister also touched on the Ministry's efforts to develop community education schools with the aim of giving a second opportunity to students who have dropped out of education to join the education train, reduce dropout from education, and bridge the sources of illiteracy.
During the meeting, the Minister reviewed the main initiative, “1,000 School Principals,” which aims to select school principals from competent and distinguished young teachers and train them through a 6-month grant to obtain a diploma in leadership and national security, noting that 350 school principals have graduated and been enrolled in schools.
For his part, the CEO of the British Council appreciated the cooperation in the field of education and the work to enhance aspects of cooperation in various fields, expressing his welcome to learn about the Ministry’s priorities and the most prominent axes that allow for further cooperation between the two sides, as well as enhancing cooperation in any new areas that serve The educational process in Egypt.
During the meeting, the efforts of the British Council were reviewed with regard to supporting school principals and the skills they acquire, so that they have an effective role and are able to deal with teachers and improve the quality of education.
The meeting also witnessed a discussion of mechanisms for enhancing cooperation with regard to inclusive schools in Egypt, and ways to provide more support to these schools, in addition to focusing on girls’ education.
