The Minister of Education discusses with a German delegation the development of technical and vocational education and training)

Dr. Tarek Shawky, Minister of Education and Technical Education, met today with Mr. Mario Sander, Head of the Department of Development Cooperation with the Middle East at the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) in the Federal Republic of Germany and his accompanying delegation; To discuss future cooperation prospects between the two sides in the field of developing technical and vocational education and training.
At the beginning of the meeting, Dr. Tarek Shawky welcomed the attendees, stressing that Egypt looks forward to further cooperation with the Federal Republic of Germany, and to benefit from its experiences in the field of developing technical and vocational education and training, developing human cadres in the field of technical education, and digital transformation, in accordance with the standards of the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
Shawky reviewed aspects of cooperation in the field of technical education with the German side, most notably the EPP-III Employment Enhancement Project, and technical support for the Comprehensive Technical Education Initiative TCTI, in addition to the establishment of the Egyptian National Authority for Quality Assurance and Accreditation (ETQAAN) for all technical and vocational education and training institutions and programs, pointing out that Among the areas of joint cooperation with the German side are the establishment of an academy for technical and vocational education teachers, the partnership with the private sector, the development of the dual education system in Egypt, and the establishment of centers/specialization with the support of KfW and the European Union.
The Minister of Education and Technical Education stated that more than 70% of technical education programs have been converted to merit-based programs, and these programs are implemented in more than 400 technical schools, and the private sector has been involved, and the number of applied technology schools has been increased from 3 schools in 2018 to 27 schools until today, introducing new disciplines such as artificial intelligence and jewellery.
For his part, Mario Sander stressed the great role that Egypt plays in the Middle East and North Africa, praising the great development in the fields of cooperation between the two ministries recently for advanced technical education.
The meeting discussed the priorities of the ministry’s transformation of the 2.0 system in technical education, which included the establishment of a quality authority, competency-based curricula, teacher training, in addition to employer engagement and work-based learning, expanding the dual system and establishing centers of excellence/competence.
The meeting was attended from the Egyptian side by Dr. Mohamed Megahed, Deputy Minister for Technical Education, Dr. Hanim Ahmed, Advisor to the Minister for International Cooperation, and Dr. Amr Basila, Head of the Central Administration for the Development of Technical Education and Director of the Operational and Management Unit for Applied Technology Schools.
