During his participation before the Senate in its general session: The Minister of Education reviews the Ministry's vision and plan to develop the educational system
Mr. Mohamed Abdel Latif, Minister of Education and Technical Education, participated in the general session of the Senate, headed by Counselor Abdel Wahab Abdel Razek; to present the Ministry's vision and plan to develop the educational system, enhance the quality of education, and respond to discussion requests during the session.
This was attended by Dr. Ahmed Al-Mohammadi, Assistant Minister for Strategic Planning and Follow-up, Walid Maher, Director General of the General Administration of Political Communication and Parliamentary Affairs at the Ministry, and Shady Zalta, Media Advisor and Official Spokesperson for the Ministry.
In his speech before the general session, the Minister expressed his happiness to stand in the courtyards of this ancient edifice, wishing the Education and Scientific Research Committee in the Senate to complete their role in expanding the pillars of democracy, supreme values, rights and freedoms, and in continuing what they have started in terms of legislative formulations that support the future and hopes of citizens.
Minister Mohamed Abdel Latif said: “The state has made a lot of efforts to reform and develop education, and the ministry’s policies in the current period are a continuation of the state’s projects and efforts, headed by His Excellency President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, President of the Republic,” expressing his hope to achieve what we aspire to, in terms of better education for the sons of Egypt and maximizing their competitiveness in the regional and international labor market, especially in light of the changes the world is witnessing in the nature and specifications of jobs and work required in the present and future.
The minister stressed that there is no doubt that the basic pillar for building any nation is preserving the cultural heritage and supreme values of society through the gateway of education, pointing out that education and its cause are the greatest common interest between the student, the family, educational institutions, society and the state, and it is the only guarantor of preserving the best of the past and building the best of the future.
The Minister continued: "Before I elaborate on the procedures and policies taken by the Ministry in detail to develop rapid and sustainable solutions to the challenges facing education in Egypt, which I had the honor of presenting previously to the Education Committee of your esteemed Council, I would like to point out that there are many preliminary procedures through which the details of these challenges were identified, starting with preparing a comprehensive study by the National Center for Educational Research, which includes more than (120) educational professors, and deducing the actual form of the field through visits to more than (160) official government schools from various educational stages in (20) governorates, and holding several open discussion sessions that lasted for several days and weeks with more than (10,000) educational cadres from teachers, school principals, directors of educational departments and directorates, guidance and its leaders."
Minister Mohamed Abdel Latif stressed that the Ministry's strategy for developing education is fixed and has not changed, and the efforts and mechanisms undertaken by the Ministry aim to implement the goals specified within the strategy.
During the general session of the Senate, the Minister reviewed the challenges facing the educational process, the executive procedures and mechanisms taken by the Ministry in the previous period to confront the challenges that have been ongoing for 50 years, in the period, stressing that urgent solutions have been put in place for these challenges according to the available capabilities.
The Minister confirmed that the Ministry succeeded in eliminating the problem of student densities by 99%, reducing student densities to rates of less than (50) students per class and creating new classrooms with (98,744) classrooms, and the problem of the deficit in the number of teachers, which represented (460) thousand teachers, was solved by 90%, in addition to restructuring the secondary school stage to provide a good educational process within the school and giving the teacher the opportunity to teach basic subjects for the number of credit hours.
He also stressed that the annual work system contributes to monitoring and developing the scientific level of students and giving the teacher the opportunity to follow up on the student's academic achievement level, stressing that any educational system in the world includes annual work.
The Minister continued, addressing the exclusion of the second foreign language from the total, noting that the goal is to focus on studying one basic foreign language and increasing the number of classes assigned to it to teach it better, which contributes to students' mastery. The Minister stressed that the challenges related to attracting students to school have also been addressed, to achieve an attractive and stimulating educational process for students, as the current student attendance rate at the level of schools in the Republic has reached 85%. He also pointed out that expanding the establishment and development of Egyptian-Japanese schools is a top priority for the Ministry of Education due to the successful educational model they provide.
