The Ministry of Education and Technical Education held a meeting with representatives of major hypermarkets and supermarkets in Egypt, to discuss mechanisms and ways of cooperation in order to graduate skilled and qualified technical labor at the highest level in the retail field.
Representatives of the Ministry of Education and Technical Education explained the role played by the Ministry for the development of technical education, because of its ability to play a major role in rehabilitating a large number of young people and providing them with the skills and capabilities that allow them to meet the needs of the labor market, by preparing graduates. They are highly educated, have high technical skills, and are able to deal with modern technology.
Representatives of supermarket and hypermarket chains referred to the current situation of the workforce in the retail sector, the opportunities and challenges facing this sector, and the needs of representatives of the private sector for trained technical workers.
The discussions resulted in the possibility of establishing a number of specialized applied technology schools in the retail field in various governorates. The applied technology schools work on applying international standards in the methods of teaching and training followed. These schools are based on the partnership between the Ministry of Education and Technical Education and the private or public sector; In order to upgrade and advance the technical education system in Egypt, and prepare qualified graduates to join the labor market, by applying curricula based on the merit system and taught by qualified and trained teachers, as well as providing practical training for students in industrial partner companies; To ensure that students acquire the necessary skills that qualify them for the labor market.
The meeting was attended by Dr. Mohamed Megahed, Deputy Minister of Education for Technical Education Affairs, Dr. Amr Basila, Head of the Central Administration for the Development of Technical Education, Director of the Operation and Management Unit for Applied Technology Schools, Dr. Ahmed Ashmawi, member of the Advisory Board for the Development of Technical Education, and representatives of Spinneys - Egypt, Raya Market, Ragab Sons Group of Companies, Lulu Hypermarket, Foodology, Abdullah Al Othaim Markets Company, and the Faculty of Engineering, Mansoura University.
