The Ministries of "Education" and "Solidarity" launch the "Drug Prevention in Schools" program in 6,000 schools
Today, the Ministries of Education, Technical Education, and Social Solidarity launched the "Drug Prevention in Schools" program in 6,000 schools, with the participation of 1,000 young men and women volunteers at the Addiction Control Fund, during the Global Volunteering Celebration, which was held in Education City in October.
This came in the presence of Nevine Kabbaj, Minister of Social Solidarity and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Fund for Combating and Treating Addiction and Abuse, Dr. Amr Othman, Assistant Minister of Social Solidarity and Director of the Fund for Combating and Treating Addiction and Abuse, Dr. Akram Hassan, Head of the Central Administration for Curriculum Development, and Dr. Amr El-Desouki, Director General of Cultural, Artistic and Social Activities. Bishop Michael, the general bishop, is responsible for the mental health and addiction control committee in the Egyptian Church.
In the speech of Dr. Reda Hegazy, Minister of Education and Technical Education, which was delivered on his behalf by Dr. Akram Hassan, Head of the Central Administration for Curriculum Development, he conveyed the greeting of Dr. With the highest verses of thanks, appreciation and gratitude for their efforts to provide support and assistance to the people of the country free of charge, and also for his happiness to participate in the launch of the drug prevention program in schools under the auspices of the Honorable Minister of Social Solidarity and with a distinguished effort from the Fund for Combating and Treating Addiction and Abuse and young volunteers.
He said: "Volunteer work is one of the most important means that countries use to achieve renaissance at all levels and in various fields, and to the extent that the nation is civilized, the contribution of its members to volunteer work will be, and in appreciation of the United Nations for volunteer work, it has designated the fifth day of December of each year to celebrate Volunteer work, stressing the importance of spreading the culture of volunteer work and the values of mercy, participation, fairness, solidarity, sympathy and respect for others based on it, and praising and proud of the voluntary work performed by volunteers that contribute to solving problems facing the state and works to achieve development and progress for nations and spread the spirit of love and peace in all the scientist".
He pointed out that this celebration is of great importance because it will witness the inauguration of a good model of voluntary participation, as about 1,000 young men from the best sons of Egypt, representing the governorates of Egypt, will participate in the drug prevention program in schools, noting that smoking and drug abuse are among the most serious problems facing societies, especially in The rapid progress in the means of communication and the influence of the various currents that young people may drift behind and fall into the trap of addiction has remained. Therefore, it was important for everyone to participate in confronting this phenomenon, as neither the state nor the laws alone can eliminate it, but this can be done with the concerted and diversified efforts of all.
He added that the Ministry of Education and Technical Education is working in partnership with all state agencies to educate students about issues and topics that affect their security and safety, physically and psychologically, such as smoking and addiction, and this begins in the early stages of their education, starting from kindergarten, by providing instructions that make them maintain their health and avoid everything possible To influence them and follow everything that can contribute to preserving them, and treatments according to the age stage continue to discuss these issues from all aspects until the learner reaches conviction of the danger of smoking and drugs and their impact on the health of the individual and the safety of the community and translates his convictions practically after that in raising awareness of the dangers of smoking and drugs and this is what It is called the transmission of the impact of learning, and all of this is done through the various curricula and classroom activities that address all types of learners, as well as extra-curricular activities such as seminars, lectures, meetings, competitions and brochures, and focus on the role of the family in early detection of abuse and how to reach the hotline 16023 for addiction treatment in strict confidentiality.
At the end of his speech, he extended his thanks and appreciation to the Minister of Solidarity and the management of the Fund for Combating and Treating Addiction and Abuse for their cooperation in order to advance society and fight everything that would affect it physically and psychologically, and thanks to the youth of Egypt who are aware and believe in the importance of cooperation with the state in order to educate school students about the dangers of drugs and how to avoid them.
For her part, Mrs. Nevin Al-Qabbaj, Minister of Social Solidarity and Chair of the Board of Directors of the Fund for Combating and Treating Addiction and Abuse, affirmed that educational institutions were and will remain one of the most important tributaries for building and shaping awareness and attitudes of children and young people towards various issues. Especially the social ones, and the school, along with the family and the media, are the most important actors in confronting the issue of substance abuse and addiction. We seek, in coordination with the Ministry of Education and Technical Education, to implement sustainable preventive programs within educational institutions, programs that are effective, evidence-based, and subject to evaluation. And continuous evaluation, which is the approach adopted by the Fund for Combating and Treating Addiction and Abuse, which has become a house of expertise for all countries in the region.
The Minister of Social Solidarity added that work guides and programs have been developed in schools to keep pace with all the changes that have occurred in the issue of drug abuse and addiction, which relies on an integrated package of preventive tools that adopt interactive methods and literary, artistic and sports models to suit all target segments, in coordination and cooperation with the Ministry of Social Solidarity. United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime; During the month of November, 8 training camps were organized with the participation of 1,000 young men and women volunteers at the Addiction Combating Fund from various governorates. After their training, all volunteers underwent integrated tests to assess the skills and knowledge aspects through a committee of experts and specialists. This is due to their accreditation as qualified trainers to implement prevention programs in schools in an integrated model to enable young people to have effective and influential community participation based on a solid scientific approach.
Al-Qabbaj explained that, in addition to carrying out awareness-raising activities to protect students from falling into the clutches of addiction, experts from the Addiction Control Fund are currently working with the advisors of the Curriculum Development Center at the Ministry of Education to develop educational curricula and include drug prevention messages in them, which is a very important step to ensure the dissemination and sustainability of awareness-raising messages. And updating it to keep pace with all the changes that occurred in the drug issue, especially since the last update on the curricula to deal with the drug issue dates back to 2014, and the Minister of Social Solidarity sent a message to the volunteers, "Every year, you continue your giving and your dedication to the love of the country. Every year, you are the pride of the Ministry." Social solidarity, the precious wealth of the Fund for Combating and Treating Addiction and Abuse, and the locomotive of change in all its programmes.
