The activities of the First International Forum for Technical and Technological Education and Vocational Training "Educate Egypt 2022" started today, which will be held on 23 and 24 March 2022, under the slogan "Draw Your Future"; This is within the framework of the vision of the political leadership and the state's comprehensive plan to reform and develop technical education, and open new horizons for the local and international labor market and investment in the human product.
In his speech, Dr. Mohamed Megahed, Deputy Minister of Education for Technical Education, expressed his happiness at his participation today in this important event, which is held in cooperation and partnership with international bodies interested in technical education and in support of its initiatives, including the European Union, the German Development Agency, and Egyptian industrial entities. Supporting technical education, represented by the Federation of Egyptian Industries.
The Deputy Minister said that we are witnessing today the first exhibition of its kind in Egypt, which includes technical education institutions, various applied technology schools, new technological universities, and technology complexes affiliated with the Education Development Fund in the Council of Ministers, stressing that the inauguration of such an exhibition and forum is an embodiment of the achievements of technical education. It is one of its outstanding fruits, and it also stresses the need for concerted efforts of all partners and stakeholders.
Dr. Muhammad Mujahid announced that for the first time, practical exams will be held for students of technical education, in coordination with the experts of the Ministry of Industry during the coming period.
The Deputy Minister said that technical education has become comparable to general education in terms of educational opportunities for students, explaining that there has been great progress in developing the technical education system in Egypt.
Dr. Muhammad Mujahid stressed that technical education schools will be accredited by the new independent commission for quality assurance and accreditation in technical and technical education and vocational training (Itqan), noting that this authority is about to issue the law regulating it from the presidency.
He pointed out that sectoral skills councils will be established and include various fields, including the manufacture of household and electrical appliances, etc., and sectoral centers of excellence to establish 3 centers during the next four years in the field of solar energy, and this is a major development in the field of technical education, noting that by 2030 there will be 27 A sectoral center of excellence, in coordination with the German side, pointing out that there are countries that wish to participate in the development of technical education.
The Deputy Minister explained that the applied technology schools have currently reached 38 schools, and we have a plan to reach 100 schools by 2030, and there is an incentive from partners to double the number of these schools, saying: Applied technology schools do not pay more than 500 pounds as annual tuition fees, as is the case with the students. The expenses of technical education schools, which are free, and the student receives a monthly financial incentive from the industrial partner, pointing out that there are partnerships with a large number and improving the service is not at the expense of the guardian.
Dr. Muhammad Mujahid added that developing technical education and linking it to the labor market faces many challenges related to the quality of education, its curricula, and the unfair society’s view of its graduates, which are matters that we are working to address through an integrated plan being implemented in unprecedented coordination with national stakeholders, and through Effective partnership with the private sector, with constructive support from international partners, in addition to deepening partnerships with all stakeholders, in line with the Ministry's initiatives and original priorities, noting that one of the most prominent achievements in this field is the inauguration of the Technical Education Advisory Council, which includes actors, stakeholders and influencers in Develop technical education and vocational training from ministries, industrial entities and international partners from all international supporting bodies.
During the forum's activities, distinguished students from the schools of technical education, dual education and applied technology 2021 were honored.
The forum's activities included, on its first day, a number of discussion sessions. The first session was entitled "Technical Education, Vocational Training and the Business World (Partnerships for a Better Future"), the second session dealt with "Governance, Quality Assurance and Accreditation", and the third session discussed "Labour Market Trends - On the second day, a number of discussion sessions will be held, the first session entitled “Post-graduation Options: Transition to Employment and Paths to Higher Education”, and the second session will be held under the title “Technical Education and Vocational Training Response to New Standards, Digital Transformation, Green Economies and Climate Change” The sixth session is entitled "Changing the mental image and pride in technical education and vocational training."
The activities of the forum were attended by Ibrahim Al-Afia, Minister Plenipotentiary and Head of the Cooperation Department of the European Union Mission to Egypt, Dr. Ali Shams El-Din, Chairman of the Organizing Committee of the Technical and Technological Education Forum “Edu Tech 2022”, Khaled Abdel Azim, Executive Director of the Federation of Egyptian Industries, and Dr. Mohamed Emara, Head of the Technical Education Sector and equipment, and Dr. Ahmed El-Ashmawy, member of the Advisory Council for the Development of Technical Education, a group of technical and technological education experts, industrial and business men, international organizations from Egypt and the world, and a number of leaders of the Ministry of Education.
