Minister of Education Discusses Maximizing Opportunities for Cooperation in Pre-University Education Sector with Global Partnership for Education (GPE))

Mr. Mohamed Abdel Latif, Minister of Education and Technical Education, received the Global Partnership for Education (GPE) Team, led by Mr. Mohamed Tariq Khan, Senior Education Specialist, and a team from UNICEF led by Ms. Natalie Meyer, Acting Representative of UNICEF in Egypt, which is the coordinating agency for the Global Partnership for Education, to discuss maximizing opportunities for cooperation in the pre-university education sector.

At the beginning of the meeting, Minister Mohamed Abdel Latif stressed that the Global Partnership for Education (GPE) is one of the most important partnerships that the Ministry is keen on, expressing his appreciation to UNICEF for supporting the efforts of the Ministry of Education in working towards achieving the goals of developing the education system and implementing the Ministry's strategic plan.

The Minister affirmed the Ministry's commitment to effective cooperation, in accordance with this partnership, to reach solutions and proposals based on the exchange of experiences and the exploration of fruitful cooperation opportunities that serve the interests of education in Egypt, and contribute to providing high-quality education for all students in light of the Sustainable Development Goals 2030, the Egyptian government's program, and international standards.

During the meeting, the Minister reviewed the Ministry's efforts during the past four months, and the measures it has taken to address the challenges facing the educational process in Egypt, with the aim of achieving better education for students, which enhances their competitiveness in the regional and international labor market, explaining that the problem of student density has been eliminated by 99%, and the number of students in the class has been reduced to less than 50 students, in addition to solving the problem of the shortage in the number of teachers by 90%.

The Minister of Education also indicated that the secondary school stage has been restructured to enhance the quality of education within schools, and to give the teacher the opportunity to teach basic subjects for the number of credit hours, in addition to activating the annual work system to monitor and evaluate the level of academic achievement of students, as well as attracting students to schools, as the student attendance rate exceeded 85% at the level of schools in the Republic.

For his part, Mr. Mohamed Tariq Khan, Senior Education Specialist - Team Leader of the Global Partnership for Education (GPE), praised the distinguished efforts and achievements made by Minister Mohamed Abdel Latif in developing the educational process in Egypt, stressing that these efforts will clearly show their results in achieving a better future for students, which in turn will be reflected in economic development in Egypt, stressing that Egypt is an important and major partner in the Global Partnership for Education (GPE).

Mr. Mohamed Tariq Khan also reviewed details about the Global Partnership for Education (GPE), which includes 90 countries, explaining that the basic message of the Global Partnership for Education is based on mobilizing global efforts to contribute to providing education and learning for all in a fair and quality manner, by focusing on effective and efficient education systems, adding that the Global Partnership for Education also aims to develop education by accelerating access to learning opportunities and achieving gender equality, while emphasizing the need for fair, comprehensive and flexible education systems that keep pace with the rapid developments resulting from industrial revolutions, artificial intelligence and digital transformation.

The meeting reviewed the strategies of the Global Partnership for Education for the period 2025-2030, ways of cooperation to implement the education reform plan, and financing plans for educational projects to achieve the desired learning outcomes, and provide students with 21st century skills that enhance their ability to be active members of society, in addition to emphasizing the interest in developing technical education, as well as developing the teacher as a fundamental axis of the educational process.

The meeting also witnessed ways to enhance cooperation between UNICEF and the Ministry in a number of joint cooperation files.

From UNICEF, Ms. Natalie Meyer, Acting Representative of UNICEF in Egypt, Mr. Shiraz Shakira, Head of the Education Department at the organization, and Dr. Hanem Ahmed, Director of the Education Policy Program attended.

The Ministry of Education and Technical Education was represented by Dr. Ayman Bahaa El-Din El-Basal, Deputy Minister, Ms. Sherine Hamdy, Advisor to the Minister for International Relations and Agreements, Dr. Amr Basila, Head of the Central Administration for Technical Education Development and Director of the Operation and Management Unit of Applied Technology Schools, Ms. Rasha El-Geoushy, Ministry Coordinator for Academic Affairs for International Schools, and Ms. Amira Awad, Ministry Coordinator for United Nations Organizations.
