Minister of Education receives US Ambassador to Cairo)

Mr. Mohamed Abdel Latif, Minister of Education and Technical Education, received Ambassador Hiro Mustafa Garg, US Ambassador to Cairo, and her accompanying delegation, to discuss enhancing cooperation and coordination frameworks between the two sides in the field of developing pre-university education.

At the beginning of the meeting, Minister Mohamed Abdel Latif welcomed the US Ambassador, praising the strength of the strategic and historical relations between Egypt and the United States of America, and the constructive cooperation and effective partnership in all sectors, especially in the field of pre-university education.

The Minister of Education stressed Egypt's keenness to support bilateral relations between the two countries and accelerate the implementation of priority educational projects on the joint cooperation agenda.

For her part, the US Ambassador expressed her happiness with this meeting, stressing the importance of enhancing fruitful cooperation mechanisms with the Ministry in all education files in light of its Sustainable Development Strategy 2030, praising Egypt's distinguished efforts in the field of education development, as education is the cornerstone of the partnership between the two countries.

The US Ambassador to Cairo indicated that Egypt is an indispensable partner, expressing her aspiration for continued bilateral cooperation in many fields, especially education.

The meeting witnessed a review of visions and proposals that would contribute to supporting bilateral relations between Egypt and the United States of America, in priority areas in light of the strategic partnership, including the use of experts and trainers from the United States of America to develop English language skills.

The meeting also reviewed ways to expand the educational model of STEM schools, which number 21 schools so far, as they are considered one of the distinguished educational models in Egyptian education, due to their curricula, evaluation mechanisms, and activities, in addition to their interest in the personal aspects of students, and the role of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) in strategically supporting this model and providing opportunities and scholarships for graduates of these schools in universities, as well as twinning these schools with their peers in the United States of America to learn about the best systems and practices.

In this regard, the American side expressed its pride in the STEM schools model, praising the students of these schools and their academic successes at the local and international levels.

The meeting also discussed the mechanisms of the Ministry's cooperation with the United States Agency for International Development in the field of technical education by expanding applied technology schools in partnership with the private sector according to the requirements of the labor market.

The meeting also discussed cooperation between the two sides in developing science, mathematics and programming curricula for secondary school, teacher training programs in English and digital skills, with a focus on ensuring the quality of trainees and training systems, in addition to the ministry's interest in the international student assessment tests "PISA".

The meeting was attended from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) by Mr. Sean Jones, Director of the Agency's Mission in Egypt, Mr. Robin Haroutunian, Minister Plenipotentiary for Media and Cultural Affairs at the US Embassy in Cairo, and Ms. Marisol Perez, Director of Education and Partnership at the Agency.

The meeting was attended from the Ministry of Education and Technical Education by Dr. Ahmed Daher, Deputy Minister, Dr. Ayman Bahaa El-Din, Deputy Minister, Ms. Sherine Hamdy, Advisor to the Minister for International Relations and Agreements and Supervisor of the Central Administration for Minister's Office Affairs, Dr. Amr Basila, Head of the Central Administration for Technical Education Development and Director of the Applied Technology Schools Management Unit, Mr. Mohamed Attia, Head of the Central Administration for Expense Education, and Dr. Aziza Ragab, Director General of the General Administration for STEM Schools Affairs.
