Dr. Reda Hegazy, Minister of Education and Technical Education, participated today in the conference announcing the selection of the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport; To organize and host the International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC) 2023 for university students, in its forty-seventh session, during November 2023 in Sharm El-Sheikh.

This came in the presence of Major General Khaled Fouda, Governor of South Sinai, Dr. Ismail Abdel Ghaffar, President of the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport, Dr. Yousry El-Gamal, Advisor to the President of the Academy and former Minister of Education, Dr. Osama Ismail, Advisor to the President of the Academy for Informatics, and from the ICPC Foundation, Dr. William Bell Boucher, President The Foundation and the Executive Director of the competition, Dr. Jeff Donahue, Deputy Executive Director of the Foundation, and a number of ambassadors of countries.

In his speech, Dr. Reda Hegazy expressed his happiness to participate in this conference, which officially announces the selection of the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport to organize and host the competition on the land of Egypt, after strong competition from five other countries, as this competition is the largest and oldest international software competition. .

Dr. Reda Hegazy said: "The academy's organization of this competition at this time, on the land of Egypt, is evidence of Egypt's position in the world, and its distinction in the field of programming."

Dr. Reda Hegazy stressed that the current generation is a digital generation, and that the development that has taken place in this field if it is not taught to students with a digital approach and education, we will have wasted part of its capabilities and qualify it for future sciences, noting that by the year 2025 millions of jobs will disappear, while it Millions of new jobs will be created for which we must prepare our youth.

The Minister of Education indicated that the revolutions in technology, computer science and programming, and the rapid developments in this field called for improving the capabilities of our students to find innovative solutions to the problems surrounding them, through the use of the technology of the fourth industrial revolution, and preparing for the fifth industrial revolution, explaining that many specialized studies indicate There is a significant change in the matrix of skills required by the global labor market.

Dr. Reda Hegazy continued: "Our participation in this event represents one of the fruits of the efforts made by the Egyptian state, under the leadership of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, President of the Republic, in achieving the goals of sustainable development and building the new republic, foremost of which and at the top of its priorities is interest in education and its development, Integration of technology into the educational process.

The Minister of Education affirmed that in this context, the Ministry has adopted a strategy in the use of technology in education in schools, has taken clear steps in it, and has made tangible efforts in implementing this strategy, believing that preparing talented students in information technology and software is the way to communicate with the information age. And the bridge to higher education with minds capable of shaping a better future.

The Minister of Education said: "We trust the ability of the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport to organize this global competition, which will certainly be one of the largest ICPC competitions throughout its history, as the number of contestants this year will be more than double, which represents a great challenge." However, it is not new to the Academy, which has long organized such competitions many times before, and which undertakes the task of preparing trained cadres capable of joining the labor market and implementing automation projects in various Arab and African countries, indicating that the Arab Academy since 2007 Until now, it is the regional headquarters for the competition in the Arab region and the continent of Africa. Every year, the Arab and African qualifiers are organized for this competition. The Academy succeeded in increasing the number of participants from (45) teams from six Arab countries in (2007) to (3800) teams from (28) Arab countries. And Africa in 2022, stressing that in all scientific forums there is no loser, because all participants in such a competition win experience, practical and technical knowledge.

In the conclusion of his speech, Dr. Reda Hegazy extended his thanks and appreciation to everyone who participated in these efforts that have brought Egypt to this position that makes every Egyptian proud of what we have achieved and what we will achieve in the next few years, because we are already on the right path.

The Minister also thanked Dr. Ismail Abdel Ghaffar for his sincere effort, his continuous cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Technical Education, and his continuous support for many initiatives with the Ministry in the field of information technology.

It is worth noting that the International Competition for Software and Information Technology (ICPC) is the largest and oldest international competition for software, and aims to encourage students to develop their skills in programming, and to use methods of systematic problem-solving by computer, in order to keep pace with the requirements of the era, in which programming languages have become an important foundation in daily life, and since 1970 this competition has been organized every year in one of the countries, sponsored by the best universities in the world.

Egypt will host this competition in the city of peace, Sharm el-Sheikh, during the month of November of this year, with the participation of approximately (60) thousand male and female students from (115) different countries in the field of programming on several levels. To reach the final qualifiers for the best (150) teams, they are selected from among more than (20) thousand participating teams
