Dr. Reda Hegazy, Minister of Education and Technical Education, delivered a recorded speech at the international conference on learning loss under the slogan “For a more quality, comprehensive and equitable education for all,” which was held by the Arab Cultural Organization for Education, Culture and Science (ALECSO) in the Tunisian capital during the period from 24 to 26 This October.

At the beginning of his speech, Dr. Reda Hegazy extended his great thanks and appreciation for the invitation to attend this conference, noting that this important conference is an appropriate environment for exchanging experiences, ideas, and visions, within the framework of the vision of transforming education, to discuss the issue of educational loss, and to develop an integrated vision to solve this problem that We all suffer from it.

Dr. Reda Hegazy said that it was one of the results of the Education Transformation Summit with the participation of 130 countries, to recover the educational losses associated with the spread of the Corona pandemic, and one of the most prominent results was that 70% of children in poor and middle-income countries are unable to understand simple text.

He pointed out that United Nations organizations have launched digital learning portal initiatives, which is a global multi-partner initiative that aims to create and enhance comprehensive digital learning platforms, stressing that the Ministry of Education in the Arab Republic of Egypt has adopted an ambitious plan to improve basic education through developing curricula starting from kindergarten to The sixth grade of primary school, creating electronic platforms, publishing electronic content, developing evaluation and examination systems, preparing a general framework for professional development for teachers, paying attention to sports, cultural and artistic activities, and integrating new activities and concepts into the curricula such as entrepreneurship, artificial intelligence, and metaverse, and the development train extended to middle school. Developing a general framework for curricula and qualitative documents, in preparation for writing academic courses.

Dr. Reda Hegazy stressed that we must take serious measures to achieve the sustainable development goal of ensuring everyone’s access to quality education by the year 2030, as well as adapting educational systems to meet the challenges that the world is afflicted with today through education for peace programs and education in the field of climate change. And digital learning, and the initiative to green education by including environmental education in school curricula, adopting a green teaching strategy, employing green technology, and arming students with green skills.

At the end of his speech, the Minister expressed his great happiness with this important conference, and the scientific and academic discussion taking place in it about one of the most important issues that our Arab nation suffers from. Therefore, there must be cooperation, coordination, and integration among us to develop a vision for eliminating educational waste. So that we can guarantee ourselves a decent place on the global map.

The Minister of Education also thanked and appreciated all those who contributed their efforts to organizing this important and distinguished conference, wishing all its participants success, holding rich and successful discussion sessions on its topics, and coming up with a serious vision from which real, implementable work programs emerge.

It is worth noting that the conference aims to continue mobilizing efforts to enhance collective support and commitment to accelerate progress in achieving the 2030 Education Agenda in the Arab region, as well as to contribute to enhancing awareness of the necessity of working to empower and transform education so that it is more quality, equitable, comprehensive and sustainable for all, through in-depth thinking about Problems of learning loss, addressing its causes and taking response measures are related, in particular, to foundational learning.

The sub-objectives are to discuss the problem of learning loss and learning poverty and their negative impact on achieving the sustainable development goals in the Arab region, exchanging information, expertise, best practices and experiences in addressing learning loss, and following up on the commitments of the Education Transformation Summit and the high-level meeting on youth learning, skills and inclusion.

During the conference, Dr. Mohamed Ould Omar, Director General of the Arab Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO), awarded Dr. Reda Hegazy a shield in honor of his efforts in developing the educational system in Egypt. It was received on his behalf by Dr. Sherine Hamdy, Advisor to the Minister for Administrative Development and Supervisor of the Central Administration for the Affairs of the Minister’s Office.

It is worth noting that the conference witnessed wide participation from various Arab countries, where Dr. Mohamed Ould Omar, Director General of the Arab Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO), and Dr. Mohamed Ali Al-Boghidry, Minister of Education of Tunisia, participated, as well as the participation of the Ministers of Education of Sudan, Syria and Libya. And Palestine, in addition to representatives of international organizations and bodies concerned with education, and a group of experts and educators.
