Minister of Education receives a delegation from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA)
Mr. Mohamed Abdel Latif, Minister of Education and Technical Education, received today a delegation from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to discuss ways to enhance technical support from the Japanese side to keep pace with the expansion plan in Egyptian-Japanese schools.
At the beginning of the meeting, Minister Mohamed Abdel Latif appreciated the efforts of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and their continuous support for pre-university education, stressing that the ministry seeks to continue expanding Egyptian-Japanese schools and increasing their numbers, as Egyptian-Japanese schools are a dream come true on the ground in making a qualitative leap in developing education in Egypt, according to the latest global educational systems, and this distinguished educational model reflects the close cooperation and partnership with the State of Japan.
The Minister pointed out that these schools include all the factors of success and excellence, adding that the interest in expanding the establishment of Egyptian-Japanese schools comes from the interest of Japanese education in the integrated personality of the child, which is also consistent with the goals of the Ministry, which focuses on developing students' academic abilities and establishing morals and values in order to raise generations that adhere to rules and laws, and respect the feelings of others, and the group learning formula develops communication skills with others.
Minister Mohamed Abdel Latif explained that the student in these schools studies the new Egyptian curriculum (2.0) in English, in addition to "Tokkatsu" activities as basic activities, adding that the number of Egyptian-Japanese schools has reached 55 new schools in 26 governorates since the experiment was implemented in 2017, as 4 new schools entered service this year, and the number of students in Egyptian-Japanese schools has reached more than 16 thousand students, adding that the Ministry is working to ensure quality assurance and good supervision of these schools, in parallel with targeting the establishment of another number of schools to reach 100 schools in various governorates of the Republic.
For her part, Ms. Kami Haruko, Director General of the Human Resources Development Division at the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), praised the fruitful cooperation between the two countries, stressing Japan's interest in supporting pre-university education in Egypt. She also appreciated Egypt's distinguished strides in developing education, noting what she saw during her visit to a number of Egyptian-Japanese schools of students' amazing progress in acquiring skills, which confirms the efforts exerted by both the Egyptian and Japanese sides.
Ms. Kami Haruko expressed the Japanese side's full readiness to provide all means of support to expand the number of Egyptian-Japanese schools, and to provide the technical expertise required by the Japanese side within the framework of the close partnership between the Ministry and JICA.
This was attended by Dr. Hani Helal, Secretary General of the Egyptian Partnership for Education, and from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), Ms. Kami Haruko, Director General of the Human Development Department, and Ms. Sasagawa Chiaki, an employee in the Human Development Department, and from the JICA office in Egypt, Mr. Kato Ken, Head of the Office, Mr. Yazaki Jintar, Deputy Head of the Office, and Ms. Dina Karam, Chief Program Officer at the Agency, and from the Japanese Embassy, Mr. Kawashima Shizuki, Second Secretary of the Embassy of Japan in Cairo, and Mr. Nakajima Moto, Assistant Director of the Egyptian-Japanese Schools Project Management Unit. From the Ministry of Education, Ms. Sherine Hamdy, Advisor to the Minister for International Relations and Agreements, Ms. Nevin Hamouda, Advisor to the Minister for Strategic Relations and Supervisor of the Egyptian-Japanese Schools, and Dr. Suzy Hussein, Director of the International Relations Department attended.
