The Minister of Education discusses with the Director of the British Council enhancing cooperation mechanisms
Dr. Reda Hegazy, Minister of Education and Technical Education, met with Mark Howard, the new director of the British Council in Egypt. This is to discuss various cooperation frameworks aimed at supporting the educational process.
At the beginning of the meeting, the Minister welcomed the attendees and congratulated Mark Howard on assuming his new position as Director of the British Council, valuing the many areas of cooperation with the Council based on solid foundations of understanding and trust, and the support the Council provides to develop the educational process and improve its outcomes, especially with regard to needs. Necessary for teaching English, capacity building activities to develop teachers' language skills, and ensure quality transfer of training to others.
The Minister pointed out that the Ministry’s strategic plan depends on the government’s program and the sustainable development goals, explaining that the plan’s programs include availability, quality and sustainability, and its priorities are based on achieving equity and inclusion, access and participation, quality of education and training, governance and management, digital transformation, innovation and green learning, and it works To integrate modern concepts such as entrepreneurship and others into the curricula of all academic subjects in a cross-cutting manner.
The minister added that the ministry will hold a national conference that includes a community dialogue on developing the secondary stage, which includes all parties related to the educational system. It will discuss an analysis of the current situation of the general secondary stage, curricula systems globally, examination systems, and admission mechanisms to universities worldwide.
The Minister continued that there is no development without improving the teacher’s performance, pointing out that the role of the teacher has changed, so the Ministry is cooperating in setting new standards for the teacher with many international partners and the Professional Academy for Teachers.
For his part, Mark Howard, Director of the British Council, stressed the Council’s continued support for the Egyptian State’s efforts for sustainable development, noting that the Egyptian State is a young country with 65% of its population in the youth stage, adding that the Council is keen to empower and teach children the language well. Without any discrimination, as well as focusing on training and quality of teachers.
Mark Howard also stressed the British Council’s continued support for the strategy and vision of the Ministry of Education, praising the diversity of schools in Egypt and the areas of cooperation, including the “connecting classrooms” program, which gives students the opportunity to communicate with students abroad and exchange experiences, which allows them to expand their awareness and learn about cultures. The meeting discussed enhancing various aspects of cooperation, including studying the British Council’s training for new teachers within the framework of the 30,000 Teachers Competition, as well as training new principals within the “1,000 School Principals” initiative to enable them to transfer their expertise to surrounding schools, in addition to enhancing cooperation in the national program.
