With the aim of developing awareness of the importance of reading, empowering generations with the keys to innovation, and supporting their national and human values, the national project for reading was launched at the level of the Arab Republic of Egypt, in which 3 million and 500 thousand students from various governorates participated, and Egypt's youth prove that they are keen to acquire knowledge and challenge the Corona pandemic and challenge the effects The negativity of social media and short superficial news, and they choose to delve into knowledge, reflection, intellect, and a taste for the arts.
The first launch of the project was in February 2020 to bring about a renaissance in reading in line with Egypt's vision 2030, and the mission of the national project for reading is to make reading a priority for all segments of society, contributing to the cultural development of our youth and children by enriching the cultural environment in a way that enhances patriotism and a sense of belonging and supports constructive dialogue It also establishes caring for young people's books by enriching libraries, raising the quality of content and output, and encouraging community participation in support of reading, by presenting model sustainable cultural projects.
In a competitive celebration, the final qualifiers for the project's competitions will be launched between all governorates with the provision of full accommodation, care and honor for all competitors, students and teachers, especially the distant governorates, during the period from April 5 to the current April 8 at the Al-Masa Hotel in the New Administrative Capital, through arbitration committees that include specialists from the Foundation Scientific research, in preparation for selecting the first winners nationwide in all competitions at the closing ceremony to be held at the end of next May.
Dr. Tariq Shawky, Minister of Education and Technical Education, said that the project achieved many achievements in its first year, and that the results confirm that what has been accomplished was great and great despite the global challenges that everyone witnessed, as the participants exceeded three and a half million, and more than 100 million books were read. In one year, the project targeted (54) thousand public and private schools, and (18,901) schools participated in the competition, meaning 35% of the schools nationwide, while Al-Azhar institutes targeted (11,800) institutes (at the private and government levels). Of these, (9,302) institutes participated in the competition, or 78.8%, as indicated by digital data and statistics on the official website of the project.
Shawky also confirmed that the project also targeted (67 universities, 172 institutes), and (52) universities participated in the competition for this year, i.e. 22% that included public and private universities and institutes, as well as targeting (732) colleges and institutes of the universities, and participated in the competition (207) of them, or 28.3%.
He pointed out that the statistics show that the number of institutions participating this year in the competition for the title of "the Enlightenment Foundation" on the official website of the project reached (1100) institutions, by (845 public and private schools), (20 public and private libraries), and (9 media institutions). ), (89 institutions for civil work), (30 universities), (108 higher councils, public bodies, academies, higher institutes, community institutions and initiatives), of which (40 institutions) have been nominated for liquidation in accordance with the approved criteria for nomination, and the institution’s strategy for the first year. Some of the creative ideas submitted by some of the institutions participating in the competitions were also nominated, which will receive the award for the best creative idea of the year.
Shawky added that the most prominent achievements related to the activities of the project in its first year at the level of all Egyptian governorates were the distribution of (34,000,000) "Achievement Code" for summarizing books for the students participating in the project, and the total number of books read reached (105,000,000) books in various knowledge, sciences and arts, as proven. It is noteworthy that the number of candidates for the first stage of the final qualifying rounds reached 850 students and teachers from all over the Arab Republic of Egypt, with its various educational institutions from basic education to university levels, in addition to 14 participating institutions of enlightenment.
An amount of fifty million Egyptian pounds has been allocated annually for the project, of which 20 million pounds are for prizes and financial rewards for all winners, 5 million pounds for each competition; In addition to trips for the first to the most distinguished libraries in the world, and 30 million pounds for logistics services, according to a ten-year plan, the value of which is half a billion pounds.
While Naglaa Saif Al Shamsi, head of the Scientific Research Foundation, indicated that the foundation in its regional branch in Egypt adopted in determining the percentages of the target groups in the project on its ten-year strategic plan 2030_2020, in order to achieve in its tenth year the achievement of comprehensive participation for all those targeted in the Arab Republic of Egypt, as it was targeted in the first year of The project achieved a participation rate of (10%), and the participation rates in the project exceeded the expectations of its first year, as the percentage of the total number of participants from Al-Azhar schools and institutes, university students and teachers reached (11.5%).
She added that one of the most important features of the national project for reading is that it is a four-dimensional project, each of which represents a competition for a specific category, namely: The first dimension: knowledge competition, which is a competition in reading for students of Al-Azhar schools and institutes, and the second dimension: The Diamond Code is a competition in reading for university students, As for the third dimension: the educated teacher is a competition for readers
