The Minister of Education holds an expanded meeting with the supervisors of basic subjects
Mr. Mohamed Abdel Latif, Minister of Education and Technical Education, held an expanded meeting today with more than 1,200 supervisors of basic subjects in the directorates and educational administrations across the republic, to follow up and evaluate the announced mechanisms and procedures, and the supervisors' implementation of the plan prepared by the ministry and develop solutions for any urgent obstacles.
At the beginning of the meeting, the minister stressed that realistic solutions on the ground and sincere efforts with the participation of all parties of the educational system contribute to overcoming the two biggest challenges facing education, which are the problem of overcrowding in classrooms, as the number of students in classes across the republic has become no more than 50 students, at a rate of up to 99.5% of the republic's schools, in addition to efforts to overcome the challenge of the shortage in the number of teachers.
The minister added that the ministry is sparing no effort to improve the conditions of teachers, and during the next stage there will be tangible steps in this direction.
Minister Mohamed Abdel Latif also reviewed the executive procedures, solutions and mechanisms adopted by the Ministry to ensure a good educational process inside the classrooms, stressing the responsibility of general supervisors in following up on teachers' performance inside the classrooms, as well as what concerns school assignments, class notebooks, and weekly evaluations.
The Minister said: "We build decisions together, and solutions are implemented to face challenges with the participation of Egypt's teachers and all those in charge of the educational process," explaining that through visiting 19 governorates, mechanisms were reached to confront chronic problems and challenges facing the educational process thanks to intensive meetings with directors of educational directorates, directors of educational administrations, school principals, and discussions with teachers.
The meeting included a lengthy discussion on the various mechanisms being implemented and the obstacles facing supervisors, and the Minister listened to many of the proposals they submitted.
During the meeting, the Minister stressed the need to use unused laboratories in secondary schools, allocate a weekly lab session, and develop students' skills that result from teaching methods, and use methods that help them acquire speaking skills, self-expression, accepting others, working in groups, cooperative and active learning, and developing personality, and not relying only on methods of explaining the content of curricula.
The Minister stressed his continuous follow-up of all reports and daily follow-ups of data on deficit-filling ratios and their specializations in various educational administrations, especially in the secondary stage, reiterating that every teacher who teaches classes above the legal quota will receive compensation for these classes.
The Minister directed the supervisors, saying: "Supervisors' supervision represents a direct and fundamental responsibility, especially for the first grades, in addition to evaluating the student's writing abilities, in order to prepare a student capable of reading and writing, as he is at the top of the Ministry's priorities."
Minister Mohamed Abdel Latif directed to measure the evaluations at the republic level and follow them up accurately, praising in this context what he witnessed during his visit to Kafr El-Sheikh Governorate schools in terms of disciplined performance regarding students' homework notebooks and teachers' notebooks.
For their part, the subject supervisors reviewed the executive procedures that have been taken since the beginning of the school year, praising the discipline of the educational process during the first week of the school year.
This came in the presence of Dr. Ahmed Daher, Deputy Minister, Dr. Ayman Bahaa El-Din, Deputy Minister, Dr. Ramadan Mohamed, Assistant Minister for Evaluation and Examination Systems, Dr. Ahmed El-Mohammadi, Assistant Minister for Strategic Planning and Follow-up, Ministry leaders, Directors General of Primary and Preparatory Education, and Advisors for Basic Subjects at the Ministry.
