Dr. Reda Hegazy, Minister of Education and Technical Education, met with Mr. Chuck Milley, Senior Vice President of Pearson for International Government and Political Relations, Mr. Gio Giovanelli, President of the Company’s English Language Learning Department, and Mr. Andrew Khan, Production Manager of the Company’s English Language Learning Department. This was on the sidelines of participation in the activities of the World Education Forum 2024 in London, where the meeting reviewed ways to benefit from Pearson’s expertise in student assessment, and how to use technology to enhance personal learning, as well as professional development for teachers.
Dr. Reda Hegazy welcomed the cooperation with “Pearson,” pointing out that for the first time in Egypt, the second language will be taught in the preparatory stage in government schools starting from the next academic year 2024/2025, making the European standard the same for all second languages, which requires support for cooperation with... Pearson in training teachers and achieving sustainable professional development for them.
The Minister continued by reviewing the curriculum development journey, starting from the primary stage and continuing through the preparatory stage, which will be implemented beginning in the next academic year, stressing that the curriculum development plan continues within the framework of developing efforts to develop the educational system as a whole.
Dr. Reda Hegazy also reviewed the mechanisms of cooperation with the World Bank in reforming the education system since 2018, through the evaluation system at the secondary stage, the preparation of the teacher evaluation criteria document (CPD) and sustainable professional development for teachers, stressing the importance of the role of the teacher as one of the most important influential elements. In developing the educational system.
For his part, Mr. Chuck Mele, Senior Vice President of Intergovernmental and Political Relations at Pearson, pointed out that the company has many strong relationships with international entities working in the field of education, praising the role that Egypt plays in developing education, especially in the field of teacher evaluation, Emphasizing Pearson's aspiration to cooperate in this field with the Egyptian side.
Mr. Gio Giovanelli, Head of the English Language Learning Sector at Pearson, also explained that the language is taught at 4 levels, which are revealing English language skill, how to intervene in evaluating English language skills, and preparing a map to link each skill level in the English language to a specific level in IG, granting internationally accredited and accepted certificates in the English language.
He added that certificates are granted to four entities: those who teach the English language in institutions such as schools, those studying abroad and those working in companies that need the English language, and self-education, stressing that teaching the English language through Pearson is closely linked to 21st century skills and life skills. Adding that the standards applied are international standards.
