The Ministry of Education clarifies the categories allowed to take the General Secondary School Examinations in its old and new systems)

As part of the Ministry of Education and Technical Education's keenness to clarify the procedures and instructions for the General Secondary School Completion Certificate exams, it sent a letter to the educational directorates including the categories allowed to take the General Secondary School Completion Certificate exam in its old and new systems for the academic year 2024/2025.

The ministry confirmed that the categories allowed to take the General Secondary School Completion Certificate exam according to the old system for the academic year 2024/2025 are students who failed subjects in the third year of secondary school, provided that they register their data (a new electronic form); to take the exam in the subjects in which they failed, as well as students who registered an electronic form to apply for the General Secondary School Completion Certificate exam (and were issued a seat number) and were absent from taking the exam in all subjects.

In this context, the Ministry indicated that all students applying for the General Secondary Education Certificate Examination take the exam in general and specialized subjects that are added to the total and general subjects that are not added to the total, all of which are pass and fail subjects, as follows: General subjects, which are: (Arabic language, first foreign language, second foreign language), and specialized subjects, which are: Students of the literary section: (History, Geography, Psychology and Sociology, Philosophy and Logic), and students of the scientific section (Sciences): (Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Geology and Environmental Sciences), and students of the scientific section (Mathematics): (Physics, Chemistry, Pure Mathematics, Applied Mathematics), and subjects that are not added to the total, which are: (Religious Education, National Education, Economics and Statistics). As for the categories allowed to take the General Secondary Education Certificate Examination according to the new system for the academic year 2024/2025, the Ministry explained that it includes students transferred from the second year of secondary school in its two branches (scientific - literary) who are registered in the third year of secondary school in the academic year 2024/2025, and students who passed the second year of secondary school in the academic year 2012/2013 (the beginning of the application of the modern system) and after and did not apply to take the third year of secondary school exam, provided that they register the electronic form after completing the documents indicating their eligibility to apply. In this context, the Ministry noted that the study materials for third-year secondary school students, according to Ministerial Resolution No. (138) of 2024, include subjects in which only science students are examined and their grades are added to the total score, including (Arabic language, first foreign language, biology, chemistry, and physics), subjects in which only mathematics students are examined and their grades are added to the total score, including (Arabic language, first foreign language, mathematics, chemistry, and physics), subjects in which only literature students are examined and their grades are added to the total score, including (Arabic language, first foreign language, history, geography, and statistics), and general subjects outside the total, which are pass/fail subjects, including (religious education, second foreign language, physical education, and national education).
