The Minister of Education reviews with the leaders of the General Authority for Literacy and Adult Education)

Dr. Reda Hegazy, Minister of Education and Technical Education, held a meeting with the leaders of the General Authority for Literacy and Adult Education and the Regional Center for Adult Education in Sers El Layan, at the headquarters of the Ministry of Education in the Administrative Capital, to discuss ways to strengthen illiteracy eradication mechanisms and coordinate work between the General Authority for Literacy and Education Adults and the central administration for combating dropouts and adult education in the Ministry.

The meeting reviewed the mechanisms and procedures implemented by the ministry in light of the national project to eradicate illiteracy at the present time, as well as the future vision in this national project, in order to achieve the desired goal of "Egypt without illiteracy 2030".

The minister confirmed that the issue of literacy is one of the most important files that the Ministry of Education is working on and attaches great importance to, in accordance with the state's plan to eradicate illiteracy and build the "new republic", and the interest of the political leadership in the file of literacy as one of the priorities of the Egyptian state.

Dr. Reda Hegazy said: "The issue of illiteracy is a societal issue, and the solution to this issue takes place with the participation and concerted efforts of all parties and members of society."

The minister continued that the file of illiteracy and the regression of illiteracy are among the files that impede the process of development and progress, directing the attendees to study all the problems and challenges facing the mechanisms of literacy eradication in Egypt, and to activate strengthening cooperation with the relevant ministries, civil work institutions, and partner agencies and organizations to focus efforts in this file.

Dr. Reda Hegazy also emphasized the importance of updating databases of illiteracy rates in Egypt, including their geographical distribution, in order to facilitate targeting them, directing the leaders of the General Authority for Literacy and Adult Education and the Regional Center for Adult Education to adopt the developmental and empowering approach in literacy and adult education.

The meeting was attended by Dr. Muhammad Nassif, head of the executive body of the General Authority for Literacy and Adult Education, Khaled Abdel Hakam, head of the central administration for combating dropouts and adult education in the ministry, Dr. Khaled Khader, director of the Regional Center for Adult Education in Sars El Layan, and Wafaa Khamis, literacy officer at the Ministry’s General Administration of Literacy.
