"Education" signs a cooperation protocol with the educational institution to build capacity to support students with visual impairments
In the framework of the directives of Dr. Tariq Shawky, Minister of Education and Technical Education, the Ministry signed a cooperation protocol with the Educational Foundation to build capacity to support students with visual disabilities using assistive technology to keep pace with digital education.
The protocol aims to support students with visual disabilities in special education schools and students integrated into general education in the governorates of Greater Cairo, Beni Suef, Fayoum and Lower Egypt.
Dr. Hala Abdel Salam, Head of the Central Department of Special Education in the Ministry, said that Dr. Tariq Shawky, Minister of Education and Technical Education, directed the preparation of educational guides and programs to raise the efficiency of teachers in public education schools, and qualify them to deal with students with integrated visual disabilities, and to equip inclusive schools with rooms of resources and educational tools. Supports the inclusion of students with disabilities.
She pointed out the need to train and qualify accredited support teachers to facilitate the process of educational integration, assess and discover cases of visual disabilities in public education schools, and provide workshops for students without disabilities to consolidate principles of cooperation and acceptance of others in inclusive schools, according to the ministry's vision in supporting people with disabilities.
Dr. Philip Maher, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Educational Foundation for Early Intervention and Capacity Building, said that this protocol was not the first cooperation with the Ministry of Education represented by the Special Education Department, but preceded the cooperation in the “Marhaba” schools project, which aims to rehabilitate and support 5 schools in Cairo and Giza to become welcoming schools. and inclusive of students with visual disabilities, stressing the support of the Special Education Department to integrate students with disabilities and its efforts to overcome any obstacles that prevent the inclusion of students with disabilities.
Dr. Sharifa Masoud, Executive Director of the Foundation, explained the importance of integrating students with visual disabilities, detecting cases of visual impairment in schools, and providing the necessary visual aids for them to reduce their dropout from education and help them complete their studies better.
