The Ministry of Education and Technical Education announced the signing of a long-term cooperation agreement with National Geographic Learning, a member of the Cengage Group, to collaborate in developing curricula for grades four to six for nearly seven million students.
The partnership, which will provide both print and digital materials to the classroom, is part of the Egyptian Education Vision 2.0, which is a comprehensive transformation of the education system in Egypt by 2030, backed by a focus on life skills, creativity, and critical thinking.
For his part, Dr. Tarek Shawky, Minister of Education and Technical Education, said: We want students to learn for life, not for exams, noting that we needed an international partner to help us provide students with the skills to work in the future and succeed in life, starting from an early age. Therefore, we chose National Geographic for Learning because the content, design, and pedagogy and teaching bring tangible learning into the lives of students.
“The Egyptian Ministry of Education has taken an advanced approach to develop an integrated curriculum, ensuring that the next generation develops knowledge, life skills and values ​​to achieve future success,” said Alexandre Broich, President of Syngag Global Business and Director General of English Language Teaching.
He added, “We strongly believe in preparing students for life and work together, and our goal is to make sure students are prepared to pursue a degree, and the Egyptian Ministry of Education aligns strongly with this mission, and we feel proud of helping to revive learning, and serving the inspiring transformation of Education 2.0 that It is led by Dr. Shawky.
“This partnership is a fantastic opportunity for National Geographic to raise the profile of local people and scholars in Egypt,” said Fred Hebert, a resident archaeologist with the National Geographic Society and a member of the National Geographic advisory board in partnership with the Egyptian Ministry of Education.
National Geographic for Learning offers curricula in the following subjects: English, Social Studies, Professional Skills, and ICT. Professional skills and ICT are particularly important in the Education 2.0 vision, as they provide students between the ages of 10 and 12 A wide range of jobs they may not know much about, and the skills they will need to succeed in the future in those fields.
In addition to providing an English language curriculum as part of the partnership, ICT content will be offered in both English and Arabic to help students learn English as part of their primary education.
