The Minister of Education signs a memorandum of understanding with the Goethe-Institut to raise the level of German language teaching in schools
Dr. Tarek Shawky, Minister of Education and Technical Education, signed a memorandum of understanding with the Goethe-Institut, the cultural center of the Federal Republic of Germany, to consolidate cooperation between the Ministry of Education and the Goethe-Institut in the fields of study and teaching of the German language, in the presence of the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany in Cairo, Mr. Frank Hartmann.
The signing of the protocol was attended by Dr. Reda Hegazy, Deputy Minister for Teachers’ Affairs, Dr. Muhammad Mujahid, Deputy Minister for Technical Education, Ms. Mona Ayoub, Advisor to the Minister for Private and International Education, Dr. Hanim Ahmed, Advisor to the Minister for International Cooperation, and Ms. Susanna Hoon, Regional Director of the Goethe-Institut in the Middle East and North Africa, and Mr. Sebastian Wouter, Director of the Language Department at the Goethe-Institut Cairo, and a number of leaders from the Ministry and the Goethe-Institut.
The memorandum of understanding aims to consolidate cooperation between the Ministry of Education and the Goethe-Institut in the fields of study and teaching of the German language, qualification and professional development of German language teachers, as well as the qualification of teachers and school leaders. Exchange for students and teachers, and the dispatch of experts in the fields of education.
Dr. Tarek Shawky stressed the importance of Egyptian-German relations, especially in the field of education, noting that there are many areas for joint cooperation, including the memorandum of understanding that we sign with the Goethe-Institut on many educational projects to train teachers through the program to raise the language proficiency of German language teachers at the level of The Republic, training educational leaders, and developing German language curricula, noting that the coming period will witness more cooperation through the activation of new programs; To serve and achieve Egypt's vision for sustainable development 2030, and the strategy of the Ministry of Education and Technical Education.
The German Ambassador in Cairo, Mr. Frank Hartmann, stressed the importance of Egyptian-German cooperation in the fields of education and language, represented by the Egyptian Ministry of Education and the Goethe-Institut, and added: “From the point of view of the German Embassy, the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding is an important step for strengthening and developing ways of cooperation between the Goethe-Institut. And the Ministry of Education within the framework of the current education development plan, as the German side supports the efforts of the Ministry of Education aimed at creating a modern educational system based on participation, and meets the needs of society.”
Susanna Hoon expressed her happiness at signing the memorandum of understanding, saying: "We are pleased to sign the memorandum of understanding with the Ministry of Education. We have been working at the Goethe-Institut Cairo and Alexandria for more than sixty years in order to deepen cooperation between the two countries in the fields of culture and education. For example, we cooperate through decades with The Ministry of Education cooperates closely in supporting German language teaching in public schools, providing continuous training programs for German language teachers, and providing projects for male and female students.
Within the framework of the reform plan in the education sector, according to the memorandum of understanding, the Goethe-Institut supports the Ministry of Education’s plan to teach German from the first year of middle school. On the one hand, this agreement is a confirmation of the long-standing cooperation based on mutual trust, and on the other A solid foundation for more projects in the future."
