Dr. Tariq Shawqi, Minister of Education and Technical Education, and Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, met with their Somali counterpart Abdullah Abukar Haji, Minister of Education, Culture and Higher Education; In order to discuss aspects of joint cooperation between the two countries in the field of education, at the General Diwan of the Ministry of Education and Technical Education.
During the meeting, the two sides agreed on the importance of renewing the executive program signed between the two countries, and increasing the number of Egyptian scholarships offered to Somali students to reach 450 scholarships instead of 200 scholarships previously offered.
At the beginning of the meeting, Dr. Tarek Shawky expressed the depth of the Egyptian-Somali relations, praising the visit of the official Somali delegation to Egypt and looking forward to more joint cooperation between Egypt and Somalia in the educational fields.
During the meeting, Dr. Tarek Shawky reviewed the efforts of the Ministry of Education in developing education in Egypt, stressing the ministry's readiness to cooperate in the field of education, especially since the ministry now has a new system of education that is applied to students in the early school stages.
Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar stressed the strengthening of relations between Egypt and Somalia, and welcomed cooperation in the fields of science and higher education.
The Minister of Higher Education also referred to the presidential mandates to provide facilities and facilities for Somali students and their acceptance to study in Egyptian universities, emphasizing the importance of strengthening efforts to develop bilateral cooperation between the two countries in various fields, in a way that achieves their common interests and reflects the historical relations that unite them and is commensurate with the Arab affiliation of Somalia.
Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar pointed to the "Study in Egypt" initiative, which allows providing more educational opportunities for students from Somalia to study in Egyptian universities in various fields of study.
The meeting also discussed the exchange of experiences between the two countries in the field of technological and private universities.
The Somali minister praised the Egyptian efforts in support of the common interests between the two countries, especially cooperation in the scientific and educational fields.
The meeting was attended by the Ministry of Education, Dr. Reda Hegazy, Deputy Minister for Teachers' Affairs, Dr. Ahmed Daher, Deputy Minister for Technological Development, Dr. Ashraf Al-Azzazi, Head of the Cultural Affairs and Missions Sector, and Dr. Rasha Kamal, Head of the Central Administration for Student and Expatriate Affairs, from the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.
