Today, Dr. Reda Hijazi, Minister of Education and Technical Education, received his Somali counterpart, Dr. Farah Sheikh Abdul Qadir, Minister of Education, Culture and Higher Education. This is to discuss aspects of joint cooperation between the two countries in the field of education.
At the beginning of the meeting, Dr. Reda Hegazy welcomed the Somali minister and his accompanying delegation, pointing to the depth of the Egyptian-Somali relations, and stressed the great interest that the political leadership attaches to constructive cooperation with the State of Somalia in all fields.
During the meeting, Dr. Reda Hegazy reviewed the achievements made by the Ministry of Education in the field of education in Somalia, as Egyptian schools have been opened in many Somali cities since 2016, which included 7 schools for basic and secondary education, as well as a school for technical education, in addition to The opening of another Egyptian school for technical education, for the academic year 2022/2023, and preparations are underway to open another school for technical education.
Dr. Reda Hegazy added that the number of male and female students in these schools reaches about 928 male and female students, and about 181 male and female students in the Technical Education School, indicating that the number of Somali students in schools in Egypt reaches 334 male and female students, stressing the ministry’s readiness to continue cooperation and provide all means. Support for the sister country of Somalia in the field of education.
For his part, the Somali minister expressed the gratitude of the Somali people for the role played by Egypt in developing the education system in Somalia, praising the joint cooperation between the two countries.
The Somali minister also praised the Egyptian efforts in support of the common interests between the two countries, especially cooperation in the scientific and educational fields.
During the meeting, the two sides reviewed a number of issues that focus on enhancing cooperation at the level of joint programs between the two countries, to have a great impact on advancing future generations in an integrated manner that increases their knowledge and experience at the scientific and practical level.
The meeting witnessed consensus on increasing Egyptian educational missions and increasing the number of Egyptian schools in Somalia, as well as establishing an independent technical education school in the capital, Mogadishu.
The two sides also agreed to start implementing mechanisms for institutionalizing community education in Somalia with the aim of enrolling the largest number of Somali children in the educational system in remote areas where there are no schools. It was also agreed to prepare a training package that includes sending training cadres of Egyptian experts to train Somali teachers in educational training. Somali trainees will be selected according to specific criteria, in addition to starting the implementation of a special program for teaching Arabic to non-native speakers, as well as cooperation in revising the Arabic language curricula for the basic education stage in Somali schools.
The meeting was attended by the Somali Ministry of Education, Ambassador Elias Sheikh Omar, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Republic of Somalia in Cairo, Ibrahim Mohamed Omar Talha, Cultural Attaché at the Somali Embassy, Al-Mushtaq Tahir Hassan, Administrative Attache at the Somali Embassy, Fahd Tahir Ahmed, Secretary of the Somali Minister of Education, and from the Ministry of Education.
