Dr. Reda Hegazy, Minister of Education and Technical Education, received a delegation from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), to review aspects of cooperation in the field of expansion of STEM schools.

Dr. Reda Hegazy stressed that this meeting is a continuation of what was agreed upon at the Egyptian Education System (STEM) conference under the title “Reality and Aspirations,” building on it, and discussing the executive steps to expand the STEM schools.

The Minister stressed that the Ministry is always seeking to expand schools for outstanding students in science and technology (STEM), explaining that this model is a successful model for education and a bright spot in Egyptian education, which includes education based on supporting higher thinking skills and scientific research, especially in the fields of science, mathematics and technology, stressing The political leadership is interested in this type of school, given its role in nurturing outstanding students and meeting the needs of the labor market.

The Minister said that based on the political leadership’s constant keenness to develop the education system and its keenness to enhance scientific thinking and develop technological skills among male and female students at an early stage, the state has adopted work to expand the “STEM” education system by establishing more schools for those who excel in science and technology. It is intended to establish at least one school in each governorate of the Republic according to the current model for this type of secondary schools, in addition to expanding the adoption of scientific research strategies and learning through projects in the years of public education.

In this context, the executive steps and procedures were discussed to expand the establishment of outstanding schools for science and technology in the rest of the governorates, in terms of providing infrastructure, equipment, laboratories, and accommodation, as a school will be operated in North Sinai Governorate next academic year, and it is planned to establish 8 other schools with a number From the governorates.

For its part, the delegation of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) stressed its keenness to strengthen cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Technical Education to invest in Egyptian students and their development, to achieve the Ministry’s strategy in developing pre-university education, and expanding the establishment of schools for outstanding students.

On the part of the United States Agency for International Development, Dr. Reda Abu Saree, Director of the Project to Support Talented Schools for Science and Technology, Dr. Hala Al-Sayrafi, Senior Education Advisor for the Project to Support Talented Schools for Science and Technology, and Mr. Ahmed Rizkallah, Senior Education Officer at the United States Agency for International Development, attended.

On the part of the Ministry of Education and Technical Education, Major General Yousry Salem, Assistant Minister for the Affairs of the General Authority for Educational Buildings, Major General Alaa Atawiya, Permanent Undersecretary of the Ministry, Dr. Akram Hassan, Head of the Central Administration for Curriculum Development, and Dr. Sherine Hamdi, Advisor to the Minister for Administrative Development and Supervisor of the Central Administration for the Affairs of the Minister’s Office, attended. Professor Mohamed Attia, Head of the Central Administration for Education with Expenses, and Dr. Aziza Rajab, Director of the STEM Schools Unit.
