The Minister of Education holds a meeting with the leaders of the General Authority for Literacy and Adult Education
Dr. Reda Hegazy, Minister of Education and Technical Education, held a meeting with the leaders of the General Authority for the Eradication of Illiteracy and Adult Education and the Regional Center for Adult Education in Sars Al-Lyan, to discuss ways to strengthen literacy mechanisms and coordinate work between the two sides and the Central Administration to Combat Dropouts from Education and Adult Education in the Ministry during... next period.
The Minister affirmed at the beginning of the meeting that the issue of eradicating illiteracy is one of the most important files that the Ministry of Education is working on and is paying great attention to and addressing, noting that the issue of illiteracy is a societal issue, and resolving this issue is achieved with the participation and concerted efforts of all parties and members of society.
The Minister continued that the issue of illiteracy and the return to illiteracy is one of the issues that obstructs the process of development and progress, directing the attendees to deepen studies related to all the problems and challenges facing literacy mechanisms in Egypt, and to activate and enhance cooperation with the relevant ministries, private work institutions, and partner agencies and organizations to focus efforts on this file, directing The need to adopt a developmental and empowering approach to adult education and learning.
The Minister also appreciated the role of the Regional Center for Adult Education in Sars Al-Layan “ASFK”, which is accredited by UNESCO as a second category, and which serves the entire Arab region, as it trains and researches, produces educational materials and means, and provides technical advice to all Arab countries in the field of literacy and adult education.
The Minister pointed out the importance of the role of civil society in supporting the Center and enhancing its role in adult education, directing that the Center, during the coming period, modernize the infrastructure in partnership with civil society and businessmen, prepare research studies, train cadres and build capacity, and hold seminars with the participation of some Arab countries, in addition to Studying the training of facilitators for the center’s developmental and empowering approach, as well as strengthening the center’s role in supporting people with disabilities.
During the meeting, a presentation was made on the activities, achievements and training programs carried out by the Center during the past period, and mechanisms for strengthening partnerships for the Center and the possibilities of financial and technical support were discussed, as well as the available opportunities and challenges that the Center may face, in addition to a review of the Center’s proposed executive plan for the year 2024/2025.
The meeting also reviewed the huge capabilities enjoyed by the Regional Center for Adult Education in Sars Al-Layan “ASFK”, starting with the library, which contains about 22,000 volumes in Arabic and other languages approved by the United Nations, about 400 periodicals, and several thousand publications issued by UNESCO, as it is the largest library. Specializing in the Middle East in the field of literacy and adult education, in addition to a printing press equipped to serve the center’s publications and training courses, a huge lecture hall, and an educational auditorium that can accommodate about 800 trainees, in addition to an educational technology unit, language laboratories, and another for computers.
The meeting also reviewed the mechanisms and procedures implemented by the Ministry in light of the national project to eradicate illiteracy at the present time, as well as the future vision of this national project, in order to achieve the desired goal, “Egypt without illiteracy 2030.”
