Mr. Mohamed Abdel Latif, Minister of Education and Technical Education, participated in a session entitled "Technology-Supported Open Schools for All" during the "Digital Learning Week 2024" conference in France, organized by UNESCO.

The session was moderated by Ms. Laisha Janie, Project Officer of the Technology and Artificial Intelligence Unit in Education at UNESCO, with the participation of Dr. Yaw Osei Adutom, Minister of Education of Ghana, Ms. Joyce Liu, Director of the (TECH4ALL) Program at "Huawei", and representatives of UNESCO, Ghana, Ethiopia, Thailand, and Brazil.

At the beginning of his speech, the Minister thanked UNESCO again for holding this conference at this important time, noting that this conference comes to discuss the next steps towards enhancing education through technology, after several previous meetings that witnessed executive steps.

The Minister said: "As we reflect on the steps we have taken, I would like to emphasize On the permanent and close cooperation between Egypt and UNESCO, especially through the Open Schools for All project supported by technology, noting that this partnership represents a shared vision to benefit from digital innovations to ensure quality education that is accessible to all.

The Minister stressed that Egypt has taken important steps in its journey to achieve a radical transformation in education, believing that technology is not just a tool but a catalyst to unleash potential, nurture creativity, and expand opportunities for both teachers and learners, noting that the success of the first phase of this project is a testament to the commitment of our teachers and partners.

The Minister pointed out that in this context, the National Center for Distance Learning was launched, as well as the Digital Content Studio at the Professional Academy for Teachers in Egypt (PAT), stressing that these achievements are pillars of the Ministry’s efforts, as they enable us to promote a more inclusive, flexible and adaptable education system, which is of paramount importance in bridging the gap between education in rural and urban areas, and ensuring that students across Egypt have access to the same high-quality educational experiences.

“As we move into the second phase of the project, we are keen to continue the success as the next phase will witness the empowerment of teachers through AI competency frameworks, the enhancement of the National Center for Distance Learning, and the expansion of virtual communities of practice so that these efforts ensure that every teacher is equipped to achieve success,” the Minister said.

Minister Mohamed Abdel Latif added that this journey requires the continued cooperation of all stakeholders such as national governments, international organizations, technology partners, and most importantly, teachers who harness these tools in their classrooms.

In conclusion, the Minister expressed his deep gratitude to UNESCO and all partners who worked hard to make this initiative a success, stressing that by working together, education is not only developed in Egypt, but also set a model for the region and the world, and through collective efforts, we ensure that no learner is marginalized, and education achieves significant progress in our society.
