"Education" and "The United Nations Population Fund in Egypt" sign the document of strategic interventions for the partnership in the field of integrating population issues into the educational system
Within the framework of the project to strengthen Egypt's National Population Strategy with the support of the European Union, the Ministry of Education and Technical Education and the United Nations Population Fund in Egypt signed the document of strategic interventions for partnership in the field of integrating comprehensive population education into the educational system, with the aim of raising awareness of population issues.
The document was signed by Dr. Tarek Shawky, Minister of Education and Technical Education, and the representative of the United Nations Population Fund in Egypt, Ms. Frederica Meyer.
The cooperation between the Ministry and the United Nations Population Fund aims to implement many joint activities, including enhancing the capacity of teachers in the field of population education, providing technical support to develop comprehensive frameworks for teachers and students, enhancing the capacity of teachers, supervisors and students to organize family and population issues, as well as supporting students to discuss topics relevant with their peers and communities in addition to supporting the implementation of innovative educational activities for students within the school.
Dr. Tarek Shawky said that the government has a plan to deal with the population issue based on integrating the efforts of all parties working to manage that issue through the implementation of an integrated strategic plan of dimensions and axes for the development of the Egyptian family, explaining that the main objective of that plan is to manage the population issue through A comprehensive perspective on improving the quality of life of citizens and ensuring the sustainability of the development process, by working to control population growth on the one hand, and improving demographic characteristics on the other hand, so that the Egyptian manpower becomes an effective human force that receives a good education, enjoys good health and a better quality of life.
He pointed out that there is close cooperation between the Ministry and the United Nations Population Fund to raise awareness of the importance of population issues, noting that the Ministry organizes many events and activities aimed at educating students on various contemporary environmental, population and health issues at the local, regional and global levels.
For her part, Frederica Meyer, representative of the United Nations Population Fund in Egypt, said, "As part of our continuous efforts to involve young people in various development issues, this partnership is of special importance, as the Ministry of Education and Technical Education and the United Nations Population Fund have a common goal; to provide young people with skills and knowledge, and invest in their health so that Egypt can reap the benefits of the demographic dividend, youth today constitute more than 60% of the population, and therefore youth empowerment is an essential element to achieve the sustainable development goals of Egypt’s 2030 Agenda.”
One of the main pillars of the UNFPA program, specifically within the framework of the project to strengthen Egypt's National Population Strategy with the support of the European Union with a grant of 27 million euros, and the project to address the challenges of population growth in Egypt with the support of the Embassy of the Kingdom of Norway in Cairo, which aims to create demand for Family planning and combating harmful practices, in engaging youth of reproductive age in pursuit of developmental gains, including youth health and the value of small families.
The signing of the protocol was attended by Dr. Sherine Hamdi, the supervisor of the central administration for the affairs of the Minister’s office, Dr. Hanim Ahmed, the Minister’s advisor for international cooperation, and from the United Nations Population Fund, Ms. Nada Naga, a specialist and responsible for the reproductive health program at the United Nations Population Fund, and Manal Eid, a youth program specialist at the Fund. Maha Mowafi, a family planning program specialist at UNFPA.
