Minister of Education Discusses Steps to Expand Egyptian-Japanese Schools

Mr. Mohamed Abdel Latif, Minister of Education and Technical Education, received Ms. Imoto Sachiko, Vice President of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), to discuss the latest developments in the expansion of the Egyptian-Japanese Schools project and the ongoing preparations for the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD), scheduled for August 20-22.
During the meeting, the Minister emphasized the importance of the fruitful partnership between the Ministry of Education and Technical Education and the Japan International Cooperation Agency, which represents a successful model of international cooperation in developing the education system. He noted that Egyptian-Japanese schools represent one of the most prominent examples of this cooperation, combining the Egyptian education system with pioneering Japanese practices in building student character, particularly through Tokkatsu activities.
For her part, Ms. Imoto Sachiko commended the Ministry of Education's efforts in implementing the Egyptian-Japanese Schools project in accordance with agreed-upon standards. She expressed JICA's appreciation for the strong partnership with the Egyptian government, affirming the agency's commitment to continuing to provide support that contributes to achieving Egypt's vision for educational development.
She added that the Egyptian-Japanese Schools experience has become a model to be emulated, and that JICA seeks to transfer this model to other African countries as part of its efforts to promote development in the education sector. She added that the TICAD conference will be an important opportunity to showcase this experience to partners on the continent.
The meeting discussed developments related to the Egyptian-Japanese Schools project, with 15 new schools set to open in the upcoming 2025/2026 academic year, as part of the expansion plan for this distinguished educational model, which has proven successful in integrating the values of discipline, teamwork, and active learning within the Egyptian school environment.
The two sides also discussed arrangements for the Ministry of Education and Technical Education's participation in the International Cooperation Agency (TICAD) conference scheduled for next August. They also presented the achievements of Egyptian-Japanese cooperation in education, particularly the experience of Egyptian-Japanese schools. The Ministry is preparing to conclude several cooperation agreements with Japan during the TICAD conference.
The meeting was attended by Ambassador Fumio Iwai, Ambassador of Japan to the Arab Republic of Egypt.
From the Egyptian side, Dr. Hani Helal, Secretary-General of the Egyptian-Japanese Education Partnership (EJEP), Dr. Hanem Ahmed, Advisor to the Minister for International Cooperation and Agreements, and Ms. Nevine Hamouda, Advisor to the Minister for Strategic Relations and Supervisor of Egyptian-Japanese Schools, also attended.
The meeting was attended by high-level representatives from both the Egyptian and Japanese sides. The Japanese delegation included representatives from the JICA head office in Tokyo and the agency's office in Cairo, along with a group of technical experts in the fields of quality assurance, educational training, and Tokkatsu activities. Representatives of the Project Management Unit from both the Egyptian and Japanese sides also participated in the meeting.
