Mr. Mohamed Abdel Latif, Minister of Education and Technical Education, participated today in the opening session of the Egyptian-Japanese Business Council Forum, held on the sidelines of the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD 9), which is being held in the Japanese capital, Tokyo. The event was attended by Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, Prime Minister, who is participating in the summit on behalf of His Excellency President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.
In his speech during the session, the Minister outlined Egypt's vision for developing pre-university education, emphasizing that education is the cornerstone of building and advancing society, and that investing in education represents a direct investment in human capital capable of leading the development process. He explained that developing the education system contributes to strengthening the business and investment environment by preparing generations of students qualified with skills that keep pace with the demands of the global economy.
The Minister also reviewed the Ministry's comprehensive plan to develop technical education in accordance with international standards, with the aim of preparing graduates capable of competing in the local, regional, and international labor markets and qualified to secure employment opportunities both inside and outside Egypt. He noted that this approach is embodied in the Applied Technology Schools (ATS) model, which is based on a strategic partnership between the Ministry and the private sector or international partners. The external partner develops the curriculum and implements international standards, while the Ministry provides the school's infrastructure and technical and logistical support. He explained that the number of applied technology schools has reached 105 nationwide to date, and the Ministry aims to expand this network and convert approximately 1,270 technical schools into applied technology schools and dual education schools, in collaboration with international and industrial partners, ensuring the dissemination of the experience and expanding the scope of benefits.
In a related context, the Minister indicated that the Ministry has signed a contract with the Japanese company "Sprix" to implement a new mathematics curriculum aligned with Japanese standards, contributing to improving the quality of mathematics teaching in Egyptian schools.
The Minister of Education also announced the commencement of work on developing an Information and Communications Technology (ICT) and programming curriculum in cooperation with a Japanese company, in accordance with Japanese standards, to enhance students' capabilities in digital skills, which have become essential for the modern labor market.
