Mr. Mohamed Abdel Latif, Minister of Education and Technical Education, held a video conference meeting with directors of education directorates across the country and representatives of the General Authority for Educational Buildings to discuss the implementation plan for eliminating the afternoon shift system in primary schools, ways to address it, and to develop urgent and sustainable solutions that contribute to improving the quality of the educational process and enhancing discipline within schools.

At the beginning of the meeting, Mr. Mohamed Abdel Latif congratulated the newly appointed directors of education directorates, praising the efforts made by the previous directors in implementing the Ministry's plan to reduce student overcrowding and regulate performance and discipline within schools. He emphasized that educational leaders are the cornerstone of the educational process.

The Minister stressed the necessity of implementing the Ministry's plan to eliminate the afternoon shift system in primary schools nationwide. He emphasized the importance of each directorate compiling a list of schools operating on the afternoon shift system, determining their number and student density, and developing a clear and specific sustainable implementation plan to end the afternoon shift system.

The Minister affirmed that the Ministry is working to expand the construction of new schools and educational buildings in the coming period, in coordination with the branches of the General Authority for Educational Buildings, with the aim of eliminating the evening shift system and making optimal use of available educational spaces.

Minister Mohamed Abdel Latif explained that the primary stage represents the true foundation for building a student's character, emphasizing the need to reduce reliance on the two-shift system and eliminate the evening shift by expanding the construction of new classrooms and ensuring equitable student distribution.

He also affirmed the Ministry's commitment to providing a safe and suitable school environment, stressing the necessity of continuous monitoring and conducting regular maintenance in coordination with the General Authority for Educational Buildings.

The Minister also directed the importance of raising awareness about the importance of preserving public property within schools and instilling a culture of belonging and responsibility. He emphasized that maintaining school buildings is a shared responsibility that requires the cooperation of all parties involved in the educational process. He also stressed the importance of continuing to plant trees within schools and maintaining green spaces.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the Minister affirmed the continuation of field monitoring, emphasizing that the Ministry places the student's best interests at the forefront of its priorities and strives in every way to develop the educational system and improve the quality of school life, especially for primary school students. The meeting addressed expanding construction solutions and optimizing the use of educational spaces in coordination with the General Authority for Educational Buildings. It also included listening to all proposals that would ensure a comprehensive vision for eliminating evening classes in primary schools across all governorates.

Rowaida Salah El-Din, Head of the Central Administration for Research, Studies, and Educational Buildings; and Eng. Lamia Fathy, Director General of the Board Secretariat at the General Authority for Educational Buildings.
