Minister of Education Discusses Continued Cooperation with Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA)
Mr. Mohamed Abdel Latif, Minister of Education and Technical Education, met with Ms. Yuko Mitsui, Vice President of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), during her first visit to Egypt since assuming her post. The meeting focused on ways to further enhance cooperation between the two sides in joint educational projects, including expanding the Egyptian-Japanese Schools project.
During the meeting, Minister Abdel Latif praised the fruitful partnership between the Ministry of Education and Technical Education and JICA, which he described as a successful model of international cooperation in developing the education system. He emphasized the Egyptian government's commitment to expanding international partnerships that support the reform and development of the pre-university education system.
The Minister affirmed that the Ministry of Education aims to continue expanding the number of Egyptian-Japanese schools, which achieve the highest quality standards in implementing the distinguished Japanese educational model. This model combines the Egyptian educational system with leading Japanese practices in student character development, particularly through "Tokkatsu" activities.
For her part, Ms. Yuko Mitsui commended the Ministry of Education's efforts in implementing the Egyptian-Japanese Schools project according to the agreed-upon standards. She expressed JICA's appreciation for the strong partnership with the Egyptian government, affirming the agency's commitment to continuing its support to contribute to achieving Egypt's vision for educational development.
She added that the Egyptian-Japanese Schools experience has become a model to be emulated, and JICA seeks to transfer this model to other African countries as part of its efforts to promote development in the education sector.
The meeting addressed developments related to the Egyptian-Japanese Schools project, particularly the opening of 14 new schools in the current academic year 2025/2026, as part of the expansion plan for this distinguished educational model.
The meeting also discussed ways to further expand cooperation between the two sides, building on the distinguished partnership with Japan, which has resulted in the development of the mathematics curriculum for the first grade of primary school and the addition of programming and artificial intelligence courses through the "Kiryo" platform for the first year of secondary school.
The meeting was attended on the Egyptian side by Dr. Hani Helal, Secretary-General of the Egyptian-Japanese Education Partnership (EJEP); Dr. Hanem Ahmed, Advisor to the Minister for International Cooperation and Agreements; and Ms. Nevin Hammouda, Advisor to the Minister for Strategic Relations and Supervisor of Egyptian-Japanese Schools.
Representatives from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) headquarters in Tokyo, the agency's Cairo office, and a representative from the Japanese Embassy in Egypt also attended the meeting.
